How do you compare to hiring a designer full-time?

They're way more expensive and harder to manage. A senior-level designer like the ones at Urbian will easily cost you $6-8k+ per month, require benefits, vacation days, etc. It all adds up!

Not to mention you would also have to spend time and effort finding the right employee, interviewing, and onboarding them and are often locked in for a year+. We have a senior team ready to go straight away, which you can pause or cancel at any time. No unnecessary commitments.

How do you compare to hiring a contractors or freelancers?

Hiring individual freelancers results in massive overheads and time spent trying to find the best talent. You'll likely need to organise and hire multiple individuals with different skill sets to get the right output. We offer flexibility and take care of the team assignment for you, making sure you have the right skills for the immediate need instead of having one generalist designer.

How do you charge?

For ongoing branding, web and product design, etc., we charge a simple monthly fee in the form of a design subscription which you pay for using your credit card right here on our website. If you wish to pay us in crypto you can do so by sending as an email request.

You can pause or cancel this at any time, so there are no unnecessary commitments.

For set-scope projects like websites and brands, we quote based on the requirements.

How soon can you start?

Start dates are dependant on capacity and whether we have open slots available that month. If we are not at full capacity, we are able to start within 2 days in most cases and some instances can start within 1 day. We keep our designers nimble and ready to adapt to the highest priority items, making sure to design the right thing the right way.

How can an Art Director and a Product Designer work together?

An Art Director and our senior designers can collaborate effectively by blending creativity with functionality. The Art Director ensures the project's visual and storytelling elements align with the brand, while our Product Designer is able to translate the broad creative visions into seamless, user-friendly experiences. By aligning on goals, sharing tools, and bridging knowledge gaps, they can craft innovative, visually engaging projects that balance aesthetics with technical feasibility, pushing the boundaries of design and technology.

What kind of designs don't you offer within the Design Subscription?

While Urbian’s design subscription services cover a lot, there are certain creative projects that should be left to specialists or in-house teams. In the interest of productivity and commitment to quality, we do NOT support the following types of requests:
—> Extremely complex or fine art illustrations
—> Digital painting and game assets
—> Magazine or Editorial layout and design
—> Large documents like Medical journals, etc.
—> Complex and intricate packaging design
—> Complex photo manipulation
—> 3D Modelling or CAD projects

Inappropriate requests that are sexually explicit, defamatory, ethnically or racially offensive, involve gambling or anything that is against Urbian’s values. Feel free to send us an email if you’re in an industry you’re not sure we cover.

Is there a limit to how many requests I can make?

Nope, you can have as many requests or project goals as you want! We’ll keep working on them one at a time until they’re all done and approved. We recommend Design Subscription Pro customers keep a few items in their TODO list so our team is always busy.

What is the Urbian design delivery process?

Our design delivery process is simple and collaborative. It begins with a kickoff call to understand your goals and inspiration. Then, you provide feedback while we handle the rest.

We update you every two days through written messages or Loom videos, depending on the topic, and are always available for a chat.

How does onboarding work?

Subscribe to a plan and we'll quickly send you an email with further instructions on how to request designs via email, Slack or Trello using the email you signed up with.

We also setup an intro call so you can meet us and add you and anyone else on your team to your very own Trello board.

This process usually takes about an hour to complete from the time you subscribe. Once you accept the invite to Trello, you're ready to go.

How does the pause feature work?

We understand you may not have enough design work to fill up entire month. Perhaps you only have one or two design requests at the moment. That's where pausing your subscription comes in handy.

Billing cycles are based on 31 day period. Let's say you sign up and use the service for 21 days, and then decide to pause your subscription. This means that the billing cycle will be paused and you'll have 10 days of service remaining to be used anytime in the future.

Can I permanently hire one of your designers?

Yes you can. Believe it or not this request happens all the time and is obviously dependant on the designer wanting the permanent position. We charge a 15% placement fee for the first 3 months.

How do you handle larger requests?

Larger requests are broken down on Urbian's end. This applies to full-scale website or mobile app designs, UI/UX work, etc. You should expect to receive a reasonable amount of work every 24-48 hours until the entire request is done.

How does front-end development work?

Front-end development is included with all subscriptions and is simply treated as a design request. For web apps or websites we are able to rollout approved designs into responsive HTML and CSS for you to implement or as long as your website supports the Webflow platform, Urbian will take care of the development to ensure maximum fidelity when it comes to the final product.

For Webflow websites once the website is fully developed, the site will be transferred to your account, where you will own it from that point forward. Therefore, a Urbian subscription is not necessary to maintain your website.

How do I request designs or share feedback?

We offer a ton of flexibility in how you request designs. You can send requests in email, Slack or into Trello directly. Some common ways clients request designs is directly via Trello, sharing Google docs or wireframes, or even recording a brief Loom video (for those who prefer not to write their briefs out).

We also love feedback! There are 3 main ways you can share your feedback – a Loom video, Figma comments, or Slack message. Our preference is a Loom video or Figma comments. But any combination of these 3 will do the trick!

What if I don't like the design?

How dare you! Just kidding. Your designer will continue to revise the design until it's exactly what you're looking for. Worst case scenario if you are really not happy (and this hasn't happened yet) we can swap your designer out with another one while we dry their tears.

Can we have calls?

Absolutely! You can book an intro call to discuss potential projects anytime. Each project starts with a kickoff call.

We offer strategy calls as needed, but prefer to let designers focus on their work. Depending on the topic, you might meet only with the project lead.

What’s your cancellation policy?

You can cancel your subscription anytime. A renewal will be avoided with a written notice at least 21 days before your next billing date.

If you cancel within 21 days of the renewal, your account will renew for one more month, and the cancellation will take effect at the end of that month.
